Christ Church Cathedral Shop

Christ Church Cathedral Shop is located in the entrance to the Cathedral. Our shop is staffed by volunteers from within our congregations as well as friends of the cathedral from the beautiful city of Newcastle and other parishes. Our helpful, friendly staff provide a warm welcome to those visiting the cathedral.

The shop has a wide range of gifts, handcrafts and devotional items which make great souvenirs including:

We also stock a good range of cards: sympathy, celebration, weddings, baptisms, ordinations to both the diaconate and the priesthood, Christmas and Easter cards. We have a variety of prayer cards, including a traveller’s prayer card which we offer to every visitor to take away on their travels.

Souvenirs include tea towels, postcards and CDs of our organ and choir. The shop also sells some uniquely Australian souvenirs.

We stock a range of books including various translations of the bible and devotional books such as books of prayers, guided day by day readings and the APBA lectionary. There are a carefully selected range of theological books designed to reach a wide range of readers. We have children’s bibles, prayer books and stories from the bible, including sticker books and versions of the Easter and Christmas narratives.

All profits help maintain the ministry and fabric of our beautiful Cathedral.

Core Opening Hours: 10 am to 3 pm Mon-Sat and on Sundays, but not during services of worship. On special events such as Ordinations, we aim to have the shop open before and after the services.

Climbing the Tower:

You may climb the tower when the shop is open: 10-3 Mon-Sat and on Sunday but not during services of worship. Last tower climb 30 minutes before the shop closes.

The view from our tower is amazing: on clear days you can see all the way North past Stockton’s golden white sands to Port Stephens and South down the coast over Bar Beach, Dixon Park and Merewether Beaches past Redhead promontory. Below the cathedral, the famous Stockton ferry crosses back and forth from Queen’s Wharf to Stockton. Frequently there are long queues of Coal ships waiting in turn to enter the Port of Newcastle, the busiest Coal exporting port in the world.

We ask for a donation of $5 per person to climb the tower. Donations are used to keep the tower steps in good order so that future generations can enjoy the view.
